A new chapter.

Writer's picture: Rosie Rosie

I am about to enter a new chapter in my career, and life altogether really. This will be a bit of a personal blog, but its also going to explain why im making the changes i am and what it means for the future- both for me and for you guys who love my work (huge thank you as always!)

This year has been TOUGH. Probably my toughest yet, in business, finances, personal life and add a remortgage on top of that… it is a year id quite like to get over and done with. I have had to make huge sacrifices in all areas of my life to enable me to get through this year- some of which i dont think i will ever not be sad about. All negatives aside, it has forced me to look at EVERYTHING i do. Look into my strengths and weaknesses, and come up with a sort of loose plan to hopefully get things to improve all round.

I LOVE drawing and painting your pets, and animals. We all know animals are my main passion, and it all just makes sense. I will still be doing lots of animal themed artworks in the future, but for now they are going to take a backseat whilst i get stuck into some new subjects & concepts for my artworks. I found myself getting a bit overwhelmed constantly drawing to order, not necessarily drawing the pieces that inspired me, and i was focussing on the short term of my art business rather than the long term. My lead times were getting way too long, and some pieces were taking way too long to complete. I need to get this working long term!

So i have a handful of portraits to finish before i take on anymore commissions- i will be posting on my social media and also those on my email list will get an email when spaces are opening up. There WILL be some before Christmas- but not lots. Email me anytime if you would like to discuss in advance.

UPCOMING COLLECTION

So…. To the good news! The ‘BLOOM ROOM’ Collection is kicking this off and is currently in progress in my studio. So lets get to some positives! Why flowers?!

Why flowers? They are pretty. We use flowers to brighten up a room, cheer someone up, say sorry, to let people know that you are thinking of them. We also use them to celebrate, decorate, and turn something gloomy into something bright and ALIVE. How cool is all that?

On top of that, you can grow them yourself from a seed and either keep them in your garden or bring them inside. Hey, some even grow inside if you dont like being outdoors.

My aim of this collection is to bring something bright and beautiful into your homes, and i have decided to leave this till the autumn/winter season why? Because i want to bring you all a little bit of summer when (especially in the UK) it will be a distant memory… probably within a week?! I say this looking out the window and it definitely is NOT nice weather today.

I am focussing on mostly my favourites, which include Dahlias, Peonies, and the odd special variety such as Amaryllis and Iris.

Now to the sentimental bits, and probably my main inspiration for the collection apart from flowers being PRETTTYYYY.

My mum is a very talented florist, i have grown up surrounded by flowers and learnt a little about them. Her mother actually used to paint flowers! In watercolours, but they were so dainty, delicate and pretty. I remember going into her little art room upstairs in her house and i loved seeing what she was up to. Is this how people feel coming into my house sometimes?! So, it just makes sense that i take my art into the floral world.

The final point ill share for now is that flowers ARE sentimental. I hear stories so often of “oh my grandad used to grow them, i remember going in the garden when i was little and they were 4 foot high!” Or “those were my sisters favourite flowers”. We choose flowers for our weddings, funerals and everything in between. But, flowers are so time limited, and they do not stay for long.

So i will be also be offering commissions for any flowers that remind you of your wedding (i could use the exact flowers), a plant you have inherited that won’t live forever but you want any everlasting reminder.

For example- i will be commissioning myself (haha) as i have a huge drawing planned of an amaryllis that i inherited from my late granny. It still blooms, multiple times a year actually. But i know someday it may not, and ill be so so sad when that happens. So, i am going to draw it! Then i can keep it forever, in bloom forever, and look at it daily on my wall. This is the sort of gift i want to be able to offer to others.

I have made sure all my reference images i have taken myself, from either locally grown sources & other small businesses or grown myself. Full creative control from start to finish- 100% mine.

The artworks themselves will be varied in style and medium, with sizes to suit everyone! This will be a collection of all sorts and im excited to show you peeks along the way, and the final collection! With prices ranging from £90-£2000 respectively depending on the artwork.

Sign up to my website to be the first to know! I wont spam your emails i promise. Only a couple a month at the most. It is worth it!

A couple more changes

  • I will also me focusing on my photography a little more, i have always been good at it. If you dont know, i actually started off doing photography and have always had a keen arty eye for it since i was young. Again, another thing one of my grandparents was passionate about. It works so well alongside my art, and gets me out and about a little more. Stay tuned for more updates on this, i will be using my art social media’s for this too rather than a new page. Photos can also be art! I have even had a front cover of a magazine, i think i was about 15?! I am trying to find it.

  • I am re opening my Etsy store for some downloadable artworks and illustrations which can be used for your own stationary, business needs, and more. Some will be hand drawn and painted then digitised, some will be drawn digitally.

  • I am still hoping to get some workshops organised! And downloadable tutorials also. Stay tuned for these, you can already download my FREE materials guide on my website store. Please just bear with me on these as i have other things to get clear before i can get cracking on this properly.

  • Portrait price changes- some will go down, some will go up, some will be discontinued. This will all be confirmed soon but i will be restructuring the whole commission process, options and pricing.

That’s all for now! Rosie x
